European Commission - Proposals to mitigate the socio-economic impact of the coronavirus in the fishery and aquaculture sectors
On 2 april the European Commission adopted a second
set of ambitious proposals to mitigate the socio-economic impact of the
coronavirus in the fishery and aquaculture sectors. For this additional set of
measures, the Commission consulted extensively with Member States, the European
Parliament and the sector over recent weeks.
The package of specific temporary measures includes:
1. support to fishers for the temporary
cessation of fishing activities due to coronavirus;
2. support to aquaculture farmers for
the suspension or reduction of production due to coronavirus;
3. support to producer organisations for the
temporary storage of fishery and aquaculture products;
4. a more flexible reallocation of financial resources
within the operational programme of each Member State and a simplified
procedure for amending operational programmes with respect to the introduction
of the new measures.
Provided that the Commission proposal is adopted by
the Council and the European Parliament without amendments, expenditure for
operations supported under the specific coronavirus-related measures will
be retroactively eligible as of 1 February 2020 until 31 December 2020.
The supported operations must comply with the eligibility conditions
established in the Regulation. Therefore, Member States can already start
selecting and supporting these operations.
The legislative proposal are available.
